Our Difference

Forecasts for clearer skies.

We start with your ideal resolution and work backwards from there, keeping our strategies proactive and lighting the path forward from day one. Our approach is informed by financial, forensic and behavioural expertise, which keeps us in tune with your family’s unique dynamic and gives you more options to move forward.

Freedom from legal fog.

We leave the legal jargon to the lawyers, so you’ll always know where you stand and can make more informed decisions. Your direct point of contact will be there to answer burning questions, walk you through grey areas and keep you one step ahead. Behind the scenes, we’ll handle the paperwork and the calendar, to lighten your load.

Our People

Gareth Walters

Director

  • Throughout nearly 10 years working with families, I have learned that being an effective family lawyer goes well beyond legal advocacy and tactics. Behind all settlements are people, with their own personalities, motivations and flaws. Everybody is different and I have developed my approach with this in mind. My vision for Walters Lund was to combine a higher degree of emotional understanding with the technical wisdom I have acquired at leading law firms, to progress matters more quickly, preserve relationships and reach better outcomes for families.

Charlotte Durack

Practice Manager

  • I pride myself on being able to forge strong relationships with clients by being non-judgmental, honest and transparent. My aim is to apply my business acumen, ‘glass half-full’ personality and personal experience engaging a family lawyer to mindfully support and empower clients. I have extensive managerial experience, having established my own business nearly 10 years ago, and have led a team to continuously deliver, whilst simultaneously being a committed and proud mum of two.

Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing the right family lawyer for you is an important decision. Every family lawyer is different in the same way that every client is different and it’s important that they are the right fit for you.

We recommend that you meet with any family lawyer you are considering, preferably in person, to make sure you feel:

  • Heard and that your questions have been answered properly
  • Comfortable talking to them openly
  • Confident in their expertise
  • They will communicate with you in a way that aligns with your style
  • Their suggested approach aligns with your values
  • They don’t just tell you what you want to hear, but what you need to hear, and with sensitivity
  • They are transparent with you about their costs

The costs you incur will largely depend on your circumstances, including:

  • The approach you and the other party take to resolving your matter
  • The amount of advice or assistance you require from us
  • The complexity of your situation

We will be transparent with you from the beginning about ways you can approach your matter to manage your costs as best as possible.

We will provide you with an estimate of your potential costs after we have first met with you. There is absolutely no obligation on you to engage us to act for you after our initial meeting.

If you do engage us we will provide you with regular updates about your upcoming or anticipated costs, as well as explanations if there are any changes to the estimates we have previously provided.

We understand that separation can be an extremely emotional and sensitive time and that you may not want us sharing certain information that you provide us to your former partner, or anyone else.

You can be assured that our conversations with you are completely private and confidential. We have strict ethical standards that we are required to meet to maintain your confidentiality.

Further, we will not do anything on your behalf unless we have your permission to do so. For example, we will not write to anyone on your behalf without your authority and we will also send you a draft before anything is sent so that you can consider it first.

There is a misconception that many people going through separation end up in Court. In actual fact only a very small minority of matters are required to start a Court process, and even fewer require the Court to make a decision.

Part of this misconception stems from the fact that agreements are often lodged with the Court to be approved. However, if this is the case, it is likely to be an administrative process only and it is unlikely that there will ever be a need to go to Court.

We place a large focus on reaching a negotiated outcome as early as possible without intervention from a Court. However, if your matter necessitates going to Court, then we will represent you and try to make the process as simple as possible.
